The FA Cup, also known as cup of England, is a tournament founded in 1871 and is the oldest competition in the world; it is a direct elimination competition without a round trip like in Italy, where 124 teams of all types participate, from amateurs to professionals and the teams that compete are purely random pairings.
The tournament start in August for the teams that occupy lower positions in the hierarchy of the English football system with the Premier League and Championship teams exempted until the third round which is traditionally played on the first weekend of January with the final played in May, in the splendid setting of Wembley. The last team to win the FA Cup was Guardiola’s Manchester City against rivals Manchester United imposing itself for 2-1; the winning team of the trophy automatically qualifies for the Europa League, unless it has already qualified for the Champions League and in addition to the trophy he takes home £1.25 million. This year the 143rd edition of the FA Cup will be played with Man City once again favorites to win the final, but in football nothing is taken for granted and anything can happen. And who will take home the coveted FA Cup for you?
